Advantages and disadvantages of optical particle size microscopy

Advantages of grain size optical microscopy:

• This is the simplest method for particle size analysis.

• Shape analysis is available by optical microscopy method.

• It allows to visualize the particles.

• Contamination and agglomeration of particles can be detected.

• Easy to count particles.

• An electron microscope or scanning electron microscope can be used to measure the size of very small particles.

Disadvantages Optical microscopy in particle size:

• Optical microscopy requires a long test cycle.

• It is not possible to test ultrafine particles by the microscopy method.

• The depths of the particle are not accessible.

• Ultrafine particle tests cannot be performed.

• It is a tedious and slow method.
