Why is water conductivity important?

Salts and certain chemicals that dissolve in water and can break down into positively charged ions and negatively charged ions. These free ions conduct electricity to water, so the electrical conductivity of water depends on the concentration of the ions. Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) and Salinity are used to determine the electrical conductivity of water, which helps signify the purity of water, so conductivity is an important factor in water.

Conductivity is a very useful factor in various industries and manufacturing processes. We normally think of conductivity as a measure of the purity of water. It is also used in the fuel industry as a safety measure, can help in pharmaceuticals, and can be used in beverage manufacturing. The conductance range in drinking water is approximately 200 to 800 microSiemens/cm (µS/cm).
