Principle of particle size analysis

Particle size analysis is a technical procedure that determines the particle size of a material, which is a solid or liquid sample. Particle size analysis is an important test and is used for quality control in various industries. About each manufacture, grinding or milling is used. Particle size is an important factor in establishing the efficiency of manufacturing processes and the performance of finished products manufactured.

The range can be measured by optical microscopy from particle size to 0.2 to 100 microns. The size in this method is expressed by the projected diameter (DP) which describes the diameter of the area, similar to the asymmetric particles observed under the microscope. This method provides a numerical distribution which can be converted into an additional weight distribution.

The optical microscope is used to determine the particle size of the following sample types.

  • Suspended particle size analysis.
  • Size distribution of globules in the emulsion.
  • Analysis of particle size in aerosols.
  • Particle size analysis by optical microscopy.
  • Particle size is estimated using an ocular micrometer.
  • About 500 particles were calculated to estimate the true average
  • The normal cumulative frequency was represented as the size frequency distribution curve
